Dharma Bums was always my favorite Kerouac book. That and Desolation Angels.

Also, congrats on being the featured blogger on 20sb!

"Dharma Bums" was written here in the Orlando/Winter Park area. Our History Center has one of his copies with his notes on it. It's really neat to see!

Also, “A Supermarket in California" is my favorite by Ginsberg.

I love, love, love Gary Snyder and my introduction to him happened to be Turtle Island. I just finished rereading Dharma Bums, getting reacquainted with some "hiking" literature before I do some mountain climbing of my own, and found on pg. 122 of my Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition where Kerouac says "Gary" instead of "Japhy": "I had a dollar left and Gary was waiting for me at the shack." This seems to validate Gary Snyder as part of the Beats, to me at least!

I thank you for pointing out Gary Snyder. I'm fairly oblivious to his work, but now I have something to look forward to.

I'm really going to have to check out Diane DiPrima. I love Jack Kerouac, it sounds like she is the female version of him.
